Pick Your Own Flowers

You Pick is now Self-Serve!

You all have asked for me to be open for You-Picks more frequently than select Saturday mornings, and I have figured out how to make the You-Pick self-serve so I can allow you all to come while also attending to my own obligations.  It will be open from 9 AM to 6 PM on Fridays and Saturdays throughout the months of April and May, at least.  Sign up for our emails to make sure you have the latest information.

What happens:

After you park (see below for parking instructions), come to the blue shed.  Enter at the “You-Pick Check In” sign.  To the right are buckets and clippers.  Select your container size as seen below:

We have three sizes of containers this year:

1.) A cup about the size of a typical drinking glass that will fit in your car’s cupholder.  Fill it with 10-15 stems for $10 for kids age 11 and up to adult.  This is also the size children ages 5-10 may use for $5. Children under 5 are free with adult purchase.

2.) A 1/2 gallon black plastic ‘‘vase.” Fill it with approximately 25-30 stems for $20.

3.) A 2 gallon black plastic “bucket.” Fill it with approximately 45-50 stems for $40.

***Please don’t overstuff containers with stems.  I understand that children can be carried away with picking and I want it to be a pleasant experience for everyone—I won’t count stems—but I do ask that if, for example, you are going to pick $20 worth of stems, please buy the $20 vase.

You may take the container with you unless you brought your own bucket.  (I get them for free from the grocery store’s floral department).

After you select your container and grab your clippers, turn to the right and go inside the flower stand to pay.  There is a cash box inside the shed (no change is given), a credit card machine on the iPad, and we also accept Venmo.  All the payment methods are inside the shed.

The main You-Pick Field will always be open.  Field 1 and 2 are open according to the signs.  I will rope off and install signs on the areas that are closed.  Please respect these boundaries and do not enter areas that are not in bloom.

If you spill your water (it happens!) water is available to the left of the flower stand door.

Parking:  Please enter the field by veering left before the blue shed and following the “Enter Here” sign.  Then turn left and follow the “Event Parking” signs to park in the field close to the road.  You may exit by driving around the field and turning right just after the power pole.  Please note that my well is now immediately after the blue shed so parking is limited in that area.

IF YOU HAVE MOBILITY ISSUES (you don’t have to be officially “handicapped”) please feel free to park either before or after the blue shed.  I know that sometimes you might have enough energy to walk the field to pick flowers but the trek back and forth to the shed might be too much.  Below is a tour for more information!

“WARNING !

Under South Carolina law, an agritourism professional is not liable for an injury to or the death of a participant in an agritourism activity resulting from an inherent risk associated with the agritourism activity. (Chapter 53, Title 46, Code of Laws of South Carolina, 1976).”

General Common-Sense safety advice:

  • This is a working farm.  The ground is uneven and there are always things to trip over.  Please watch your step.  Irrigation lines cross the heads of the beds.  If you have balance or mobility issues, consider purchasing a bouquet and enjoying the view of the fields instead of picking.
  • Please do not get on or allow your children to get on any of the farm machinery or tools.
  • Please watch out for cars that might be traversing the area.
  • Please don’t run with scissors.  Please supervise children and use your own judgement as a parent as to whether or not they can cut their own flowers.
  • The field is stroller-accessible: it’s generally level ground without too many holes.  Strollers will not fit down most of the rows but you can walk around the fields with the stroller. People have also come out in wheelchairs, but there is no paved ground or ramps of any kind.
  • Some of the rows are quite narrow in the production areas.
  • Metal stakes hold up the netting in some areas.  Please watch out for these as you lean over to pick.
  • There are bees and fire ants at the farm.  I treat for the fire ants, but as you know they are impossible to get rid of.  Snakes have also been known to visit the farm.  The farm backs up to hundreds of acres of forest.
  • We do not have a public restroom.  We are located about 5 minutes from several gas stations and fast food restaurants.

Please have a great time picking flowers…I love it!
